Já era, nazis!

Como falei no post anterior, hoje tinha tudo pra ser um dia com fortes emoções. Mas das quatro marchas neo-nazistas programadas para acontecer em Leipzig nesse sábado chuvoso, NENHUMA foi adiante (palmas ao fundo).

Ontem mesmo, as marchas foram proibidas judicialmente e no fim das contas, os neo-nazis só foram autorizados a fazer uma demonstração com horário limitado, em um dos estacionamentos da estação central de trens de Leipzig.

Eu dormi ansiosa, pensando em ir hoje a alguma manifestação aqui perto de casa. Não quis me arriscar a ir muito longe sozinha, porque ninguém que eu conheço se animou a ir a algum protesto pacífico. Comecei a ler as notícias via twitter e percebi que as maiores aglomerações estavam mais distantes de onde moro. Resumo da ópera: saí por aqui por perto e nada de manifestações pacíficas. Havia, sim, muitos carros da polícia. Mas tudo estava na mais perfeita ordem no meu bairro (que bom!).

Porém, mesmo de longe, pude observar muita coisa graças ao uso organizado de redes sociais como o twitter. Foi bacana ver como as pessoas se ajudavam na internet e davam dicas para onde ir em determinado momento do dia ou informavam o quê estava acontecendo onde.

Pontos altos da twitosfera pra mim:

- uma menina tuitou que os manifestantes que protestavam pacificamente, estavam soprando bolinhas de sabão em direção aos neo-nazis. Uma atitude, no mínimo, bem-humorada;

- alguém tuitou para outra pessoa que megafones estavam sendo vendidos em promoção. Um belo senso de oportunidade da loja;

- tuitaram dizendo que os neo-nazistas pediram uma pizza, mas os manifestantes do protesto pacífico bloqueram a passagem do carro e não deixaram a pizza ser entregue. E ainda terminaram o tweet dizendo: “vocês vão passar fome!”

Por outro lado, os nazis também estavam usando o twitter para se comunicar. Incrível observá-los se chamarem entre si de “camaradas” e ler palavras de ordem como “a direita é o futuro”. Felizmente, os extremistas não estavam organizados e chegaram a Leipzig em menor número que o esperado.

Fiquei frustrada por não ter participado mais ativamente de alguma manifestação pacífica. Mas ir sozinha protestar em condições como essa, poderia ter sido uma roubada. E daí, eu acabei controlando o meu ímpeto em prol da minha própria segurança.

Mas como eu não sou mera turista a passeio aqui, acho importante me envolver com assuntos que mexem comigo e me atingem, de uma maneira ou de outra. E esse é um tema que me toca bastante.

Racismo não é legal. Nem aqui e nem em lugar nenhum. Por isso, fico muito feliz pelo fato de as pessoas em Leipzig, terem enfrentado o frio e a chuva para protestar pacificamente nas ruas. Em ações, o mais importante foi dito: aqui não há lugar para neo-nazismo ou extremismo!

We live in a social media world and the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall couldn’t be outside of this context.

I just discovered in internet the website “Berlin Twitter Wall” which asks people to share feelings and thoughts about this important date. The detail: everything must use twitter as platform of communication.

If you’re not familiar to this, here are some basics: it’s necessary to register yourself in twitter and afterwards, from your account, you can write things in until 140 words (that’s the trick of it).

To take part in the Berlin twitter wall, you need to use the hashtag #fotw. This symbol “#” means the subject of your messages in the twittosphere. After writing and sending it, you’ll have your words displayed on the vitual wall. That’s a very nice idea!

Nós vivemos em um mundo de mídias sociais e as celebrações dos 20 anos da queda do muro de Berlim não poderiam ficar de fora desse contexto.

Acabo de descobrir na internet o site “Berlin Twitter Wall” que pede às pessoas para dividirem sentimentos e pensamentos sobre essa data tão importante. O detalhe: tudo deve ser feito usando o twitter como plataforma de comunicação.

Se você não está familiarizado com isso, aqui vão algumas noções básicas: é preciso se registrar no twitter e depois, já da sua conta, você pode escrever coisas em até 140 caracteres (esse é o grande truque da coisa).

Para fazer parte do “muro de Berlim no twitter”, você deve usar a hashtag #fotw. Esse símbolo do jogo da velha “#” serve para sinalizar os assuntos das suas mensagens na twittosfera (fotw vem do inglês “fall of the wall” ou queda do muro).

Depois de escrever e enviar, você vai ter as suas palavras escritas no muro virtual. Uma idea muito bacana!

Mauer Mob: a short interview

Planning to come to Berlin and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the wall? So you better organize yourself very well: there are plenty of activities to do, specially on November, 9th 2009. The official program is HERE.

However, I found a special event concerning the celebrations of 20 years, which is not in the anniversary’s official program. I joined a Facebook community some months ago called “Recreating Berlin Wall – 9th November 2009” and thought: “This idea is really cool!”.

But you may ask yourself now: “What is all this about? Will the Berlin wall exist again?”. No, at least not as symbol of repression as it was before.  It’s a mob to bring people together and reconstruct a kind of “human Berlin wall”. As it’s explained in the project’s official website:

“Mauer Mob. 2009 – Recreating the Berlin Wall is a large scale art project in the frame work of the 20 year anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, in Berlin, Germany. The idea is to form on the 9th of november 2009 – the night the Wall fell 20 years ago – a line of people that will recreate the Berlin Wall with their physical presence, marking the path where the wall once stood. Thousands of people will form a human chain that will make its way on the 9th of november around 8.15pm.”

I could make an exclusive interview per e-mail with Martin Butler, a British performance director and curator. He is the one who initiated the Mauer Mob.

The Wall Memories: Where were you on November, 9th 1989? How did you feel about the fall of the wall?

Martin Butler: on the 9th november 1989 I was partiyng at the (nightclub) Hacienda in Manchester. It represented  for me that people can change themselves if they want to.

TWM: From where came the idea to recreate the wall with people?

MB: It seemed like a simple and powerful gesture.

TWM: What is your biggest motivation to make the mob?

MB: I found it an important date to remember, and to reflect upon. It is a part of a series of large scale temporary monuments that I am trying to establish.

TWM: Why to recreate a symbol of repression?

MB: I don’t ask people to recreate a  symbol of repression. I ask people to come together and think about divisions… It is a positive and participatory action.

TWM: What is the goal and how many people already confirmed to be there on November, 9th?

MB: The goal is to fill the whole length of the wall, but if  the project effects only two people it will still be a success. But we have now already a few thousand people involved. (Note of TWM: On October, 19th, the official website says that 1828 people are already registered for the mob – including myself. The numbers are always increasing thanks to the social media).
